Advani vs Manmohan - Advani throws the challenge

Advani’s barrage against Manmohan: I pity him

Addressing a public meeting at the Kankaria Football Ground here on Friday, he asked the people to choose from opportunism, dynasty and nationalism. Advani told the gathering that if the BJP won, then India stood to win, where it would be counted of in this world.

He said that the present government, of Sonia Gandhi and not Manmohan Singh, was a total failure with not a single achievement to show, which was an “all-time record”. He appealed to the people to vote for a “determined leader and honest government”.

The Congress responded by hiding behind technicalities. Spokesman Digvija Singh said that a debate is not necessary as India is not a presidential system. Read Congress response here. DigVijay Singh again completely skirts the main issue and proceeds to poke fun at the BJP. Excellent way to miss the point buddy!!

The BJP found support from Nitish Kumar on the debate issue. Read news report here.

I would say that this is an excellent idea. Thiss is a great way to bring out the core issues and the stand of both the BJP and the congress on various issues. The people have a right to know what these parties stand for and how their actions and proposals impact the future of the nation. The BJP is ready, but is the Congress ready to pick up the gauntlet?

It is disconcerting to see Congress attack the BJP and Advani on issues that have no direct bearing on the circumstances that nation finds itself in and will be facing in the future. Advani's age seems to be of great concern to the congress while it seems to have forgotten that Manmohan Singh is himself 76.
